Open the History Palette and click on the original image at the pinnacle, the last step you did or anywhere else in betwixt. If you are simply talking well-nigh the last matter yous did, and so merely use the undo/redo Command- Z.

Provided y'all're working not-destructively, copy the groundwork layer onto the pinnacle, and hibernate/unhide to run into the departure between current/original

Yous don't even demand to move information technology upwards to the top, just hold downward the Alt central and click on the eyeball of the background layer. This will turn off all layers except that layer. Alt-Click again, and all layers that were previously on will come back on. (this works for any layer that yous want to view by itself)

If y'all desire to meet a side by side comparison, instead of toggling back and forth, choose whatever history state you want to compare and choose Image> Indistinguishable. When you take two or more images open up, note the options available under Window> Arrange (for ex. "friction match zoom and location") .

I also like using the ctrl-z method that Mike Warren mentioned, to toggle back and forth between whatever previous history state and the latest history state.
